JOHN SPOONER
Born in Blind River Northern Ontario, John grew up singing harmony with his Mother while he helped her do the dishes
during the early 1940's.
John sang in church choirs and in high school quartets and started writing songs in his teens. Married life and raising
kids put music on hold for awhile but now with the kids out all on their own John is once again enjoying rhyming and making
up melodies. John tries to write "Canadiana" as much as possible but other genres of folk and country have a way of slipping
through every now and then.
John also performs with Easy Folk Trio and can be seen around town performing with various choirs from time to time.
ANDREW GODON
Andrew began playing guitar in high school during the folk music boom of the 60s and was soon playing in
coffeehouses around the San Francisco Bay Area. Circumstances led him to relocate to Canada in 1967 where he formed
a band and began playing acid-rock music around the Vancouver and Victoria area. Other bands and other locales followed
covering different genres from rock to top 40 and lounge music in cities from Winnipeg to Seattle. Among his achievements
are: winning a battle of the bands in Vancouver in late 60s; release of single in 1970; winning the regional division
(Northwest US) of a Nashville Network song competition; opening act for Ike and Tina Turner. Now Andrew's musical and
physical journey has come full circle, back to Victoria and back to folk music.
PAUL GATIEN
Paul is a Victoria based Yukoner who has been playing guitar and writing songs for the past 30 years. Paul writes
songs, often collaborating with his wife Leah, that celebrates and contemplates love, life and death. Paul and Leah
relocated to Victoria in 2002 from the Yukon where they both spent most of their lives.
When not playing music Paul keeps himself busy with other music or entertainment related projects such as live sound
mixing for concerts, managing international concert tours, installing professional audio systems and trying to keep up
with the housecleaning.
BLAIR MITCHELL
Forced at ruler point to play piano from a young age was, as they say, a blessing in disguise. It has given Blair an
eternal appreciation for music, but more importantly as a teen an avenue into something loud, the drums. This led to
playing in an indie pop/rock band in Vancouver in the 90's. Travelling then took Blair to his ancestrol home of Scotland,
where living in an apartment forced a downgrade and the beginning of experimenting with smaller, less cumbersome drums
like the Djembe and the Bohran. Having moved back to Canada with his wife Ingrid, Blair dusted off the old kit brought
it over to Victoria and soon after was playing with ANJOPA.
CRAIG MODDLE - an occasional member
As a kid there was music around; radio, vinyl (records, remember them?), and of course live. Church choir
and family taught harmony, jamming and participating in various collaborations encouraged explorations into
folk, blues, rock, and a general passion for playing. But life brought other challenges and choices into
Craig's life so playing music more or less fell by the wayside. Originally from southern Ontario, Craig has
spent the past 30 years working professionally in the entertainment industry, both onstage & off. Life in BC
and the Yukon has occasionally brought opportunities to brush up on forgotten chops, but they were few and
sometimes far between. So it is with great pleasure that Craig finds himself "blowing harp" with these talented
gents and in return Anjopa is thrilled whenever Craig is able to join us on stage.
